THIS WEEK'S MOVE

Don't start a software business.

Solve one problem first.

Hey —

John here.

Thirty people paying nine dollars a month. That's two hundred seventy dollars in monthly revenue.

Not a promise. Just the math.

But here's what's different today. You no longer need to know how to code to start building simple software.

Tools like Lovable and Replit can turn plain-English instructions into working prototypes. And that changes who gets to participate.

Three-minute read.

Reply BUILD and tell me the problem you're looking at. I read every one.

What's changing:

Not long ago, building a software tool usually meant learning to code or paying someone who already knew how.

Now you can describe what you want. AI helps build the first version.

A calculator. A tracker. A scheduler. A small tool that solves one annoying problem.

But there's a catch.

Building software is getting easier. Finding someone who wants it isn't.

That's where the Money Move begins.

Where the money is:

Forget the next billion-dollar app.

Look for one small problem somebody deals with every week. Maybe they're spending an hour rebuilding the same spreadsheet. Calculating something by hand. Juggling information across three different places.

If the problem happens repeatedly, fixing it may be worth paying for.

And you don't need thousands of customers.

The goal isn't one hundred customers. It's finding the first person who wants the solution.

The Money Move:

Tuesday we looked for evidence of a real problem.

Now take the strongest one and shrink it.

Don't build a platform. Build one useful function.

A calculator that gives a clear answer. A tracker that eliminates a repetitive task. A simple tool that saves someone time.

Start with the smallest version.

Try this:

Open an AI app builder such as Lovable. Start with its free option, if available.

Paste:

❝

Build a simple, mobile-friendly web tool that solves this one problem: [PROBLEM].

The user should enter [INPUTS].

The tool should calculate or produce [RESULT].

Keep it to one screen. No accounts, payments, database, or complicated features. Use sample information only.

Explain what I need to test before sharing it with anyone.

The Cashflow Check™

What passed. What didn't.

The big app didn't make it. The complicated subscription business didn't make it. The weekend-launch promise didn't make it either.

One problem. One working tool. One person willing to try it.

That passed.

A prototype proves you can build something. A real customer willing to pay begins to prove there's a business. Two very different things.

This weekend:

Don't spend money launching anything yet.

Take the problem you found Tuesday.

Describe one small solution.

Build a rough version.

Test it.

Then show it to one person who actually has the problem. Ask:

"Would this make your life easier enough to use regularly?"

Listen to the answer. If they want it, ask what they'd realistically pay. If they don't? You just saved yourself weeks of building the wrong thing.

That's a win too.

“The money isn't in building more software. It's in solving something people care about.”

Find the problem. Build the fix.
