The Money Move · Issue #017 · Thursday, July 23

Hey —

John here.

Was sitting in my accountant's office Friday. She asked about subscriber count climb and finally looked up "what's actually in that newsletter?" I named three of the plays people are running right now. She signed up before I stood up. Then asked me to send the link to her staff. Not for extra income. For job protection.

Today's play was one of the three I named — the Etsy shop hiding in your favorite category needs a rewrite before Q4. Two-minute read.

Reply "WIN" if you tried a Money Move play this week. I read every one.

Here's what's happening this month for every Etsy seller you know. Q4 — October through December — is when they make forty percent of their entire year. Handmade jewelry, personalized kids' books, ceramics, candles, art prints. All the stuff people buy for holiday gifts. Right now, mid-July, is the exact moment smart sellers rewrite their listings to catch Etsy's holiday search algorithm before the traffic hits.

Most sellers don't do it. They keep the same copy they wrote three years ago when they opened the shop. Beautiful product. Dead words underneath. Etsy's search engine skips right past them.

Most sellers try to fix it four ways:

  • Hire an "Etsy SEO expert" on Fiverr (fifty bucks a listing, cookie-cutter output)

  • Rewrite it themselves (never finish, get overwhelmed)

  • Watch a YouTube tutorial (paralysis by advice)

  • Nothing. Just hope.

Every one of those fails them because Etsy sellers are creative people who hate writing. They want someone who can look at their product, understand it, and write copy that sounds like them — not a Fiverr template.

The better play: you. With Claude. In one weekend.

The math up front: four ninety-seven per shop for a ten-listing power pack, delivered in five days. Three shops in your neighborhood or extended network before August. Fourteen ninety-one by August first. Every new product they launch after that is fifty in your pocket.

If layoffs are landing around you, this is the safety net you build before you need it. If they aren't, it's the raise your job never gave you.

The pitch script (message any Etsy shop you already love, or any shop you find with under five hundred sales but great product photos):

"Quick heads up — I looked at your shop and rewrote one of your listings using AI. Attaching it as a free sample. If you like it, I do ten listings for four ninety-seven, delivered in five days. Perfect timing before Q4 traffic hits. Interested?"

Twenty messages. Two closes. That's the math. Send twenty.

The 3 prompts:

1. LISTING SCANNER (paste 3 listings with their URLs)

Audit these three Etsy listings as an experienced Etsy SEO consultant. For each: identify the top 3 things costing them sales — missing search keywords, weak first sentence, buried benefits, no story hook, thin descriptions. Give each listing a "sales potential score" from 1 to 10 and one specific fix that would move it up 3 points. Keep the tone constructive, not critical. This is the audit I show the seller to prove I know what I'm doing.

2. LISTING REWRITER (paste one listing + the seller's answer to "who buys this and why")

Rewrite this Etsy listing for [PRODUCT] targeting [BUYER]. Structure: Line 1 = an emotional hook (why this matters to the buyer), Lines 2-3 = the sensory detail (how it looks, feels, smells, sounds when used), Lines 4-5 = the benefit and use case, Lines 6-8 = product specs as bullets (materials, size, care), Line 9 = a subtle gift-giving hint (birthday, anniversary, holiday). End with 13 Etsy-friendly SEO tags separated by commas. Voice: warm, personal, human. Read it out loud — if any line sounds like AI wrote it, rewrite it.

3. HOLIDAY REFRESH UPSELL (send 30 days after delivery)

Write a 3-paragraph message to send the Etsy seller 30 days after delivering their ten-listing pack. Paragraph one: ask if they've seen any change in views or sales since the update. Paragraph two: offer the "Holiday Q4 Refresh" — you rewrite ten more listings tuned specifically for October to December buyer intent (gift shoppers, self-treat buyers, last-minute panic buyers), plus ten holiday-themed captions for their Etsy social. Same four ninety-seven, five-day delivery. Paragraph three: soft yes — they reply with the ten listings they want prioritized, you handle the rest. Warm friend celebrating their shop.

5 steps:

  • Tonight: Open Etsy. Search a category you actually enjoy — jewelry, kids' toys, ceramics, home goods, candles. Find 20 shops with under five hundred sales but genuinely great product photos. Save the list.

  • Friday night: Pick ONE shop. Run Listing Scanner on their top 3 listings. Then run Listing Rewriter on their single best product. Save the rewritten version. That's your free sample.

  • Saturday morning: Message that shop first with the rewritten sample. Then send the same pitch (with your fresh rewrite as the sample) to the other 19.

  • Sunday: Reply to every message same day. First "yes" = you get their ten listing URLs and their answer to "who buys this and why." First close by Tuesday.

  • Following weekend: Deliver the ten-listing pack. Invoice four ninety-seven. Repeat with two more shops before August ends.

Where else to find sellers: local craft fairs, Facebook groups for "[your city] handmade artists," friends of friends who mention "my Etsy shop" at dinner, the person selling jewelry at the farmer's market Saturday morning. Every one of them has this exact problem.

That's the play.

"Every hidden Etsy shop has a $497 problem."

Rewrite the shop.
